Dyslexia Awareness Award Bronze June 2023

The Dyslexia Awareness Award raises awareness of Dyslexia, embedding a whole school practise and celebrating success.

DYSLEXIA REDEFINED “Dyslexia is a specific learning ability, neurobiological in origin. It is typically characterised by strengths that may include creative expression, athletic performance and scientific discovery. The individual with dyslexia often exhibits strengths in big-picture concepts, thinking outside the box, making unexpected connections and demonstrates an intuitive sense of understanding of people and navigating the natural world…” Cheri Rae

In February 2020, St Joseph's RC Primary School achieved the Bronze Dyslexia Awareness Award from Cardiff Local Authority. In June 2023, St Joseph's was successful in gaining reaccreditation of the award, which is a practical acknowledgement of the excellent practice happening in school in terms of the support offered to dyslexic students. The award enables us to have this work recognised and builds confidence around the area of dyslexia for staff, students and parents alike.
